“Lotus is the name of it’s second collection making a tribute to one of its main source of inspiration, Kwan Yin, or Kuan Yin Shi, a goddess within the Asian countries. In this particular case one of her legends was taken into account “The legend of Mio Shan” in which she is a princess from a wealthy Chinese family, and due to various factors as well as the stubbornness of her dad and her merciful and compassionate nature, she becomes the goddess of mercy, compassion and love.
Lotus is a vibrant collection full of colorful energy inspired by Kwan Yin, her jewelry and her godliness manners, a collection full of presence, majestic pieces, royalty, and unique opulence.
My love affair with fashion and jewelry started at a very young age, my grandma as well as my mom have a talent for fashion therefore it runs in the family.
In my teen years my family and me were expats in Europe for four years, living in a city like Amsterdam and studying at an international school gives you a unique opportunity that completely changed my life, i had the chance to be confronted with classmates from all around the world as well as traveling quite extensively, getting to know and experience different cultures and languages. That’s when the wanderlust or travelbug became a part of me, and i would say it’s one of my main sources of inspiration in order to create collection, whether it’s jewelry,or clothing or even styling for a certain client or photoshoot.
While i was in Amsterdam, at the end of 8th grade we were asked to structure a project in which we will be working on during our last year of middle school meaning 9th grade, by that time of my teen years i had a slight obsession with my roots and Colombia, therefore i immediately created a plan taking advantage of my summer holidays in Colombia to learn jewelry making and represent each Colombian region on a jewelry set, each one using different gemstones, it turn out to be very successful.
Although once i graduated high school, i focused more on my fashion career and in garments, from time to time i would actually work on some jewelry pieces for each collection, yet they weren’t the protagonist. Nevertheless, 6 years ago, me and my family became expats again, this time in the Caribbean, exposing myself once again to a whole different culture, that might look similar to mine but it definitely isn’t, and continuing my jewelry journey, which is one of the best gifts that The Dominican Republic has given me.
My encounter with my latent passion, jewelry, was simply serendipity. While i was waiting to go Milan to start one of my master’s degree, i enrolled myself on a variety of courses, in which jewelry design was one of them, yet so many time had gone by that i wasn’t really sure i could make it, it seemed like a whole different and challenging world to me. However, once i started designing, actually making jewelry and learning new techniques, i was completely mesmerized by it and with the encouragement of my tutor i actually saw the possibility of creating a jewelry line, a very special and particular line, which is now called “Ephemeral Opulence” .
Once i got to Milan to start my first Master’s degree, which was in Fashion Styling & Portfolio, i was so passionate about jewelry and making it , that on every single photoshoot that i was preparing and styling, i would design and make some jewelry pieces for the model to wear, it was like a need, something that i had to create and show to the world while i could actually fully focus on my jewelry line. A few years after i started doing so, started designing “Lotus” which is its second collection, in which the protagonist is Kwan Yin , a very beloved deity in Asia as well as for myself.
While i was designing and making “Lotus” between Milan and Dominican Republic, i decided to take this jewelry dream to a whole new level and enrolled myself on my second masters degree, it was High Jewelry Design, once again in my beloved city Milano, even though it wasn’t easy at the beginning, and i felt that my jewelry knowledge was almost null, i pushed myself to the limit and the results were amazing, ended up gaining knowledge about all the precious, semiprecious and colored gemstones as well as designing jewelry collections for famous italian jewelry brands such as Schreiber Gioielli and Damiani.
I consider myself a very creative yet perfectionist person, which in this case has helped a lot to follow my passion and my goals throughout my life, nowadays i’m happily working and injecting all my passion, creativity, and perseverance on “Ephemeral Opulence” in order for it to sky rocket and embrace women to be different, dare to stand out from the crown and embrace their differences and corkiness.
